BattleTabs brings naval grid warfare into quick, tactical turn-based matches played directly in your browser. You assemble a team of 4 ships, place them onto your side of the water, and take turns firing across the board to locate and destroy opposing vessels before your rival wipes out your armada.

Every vessel in your squad brings its own specialized skills and cooldown timers rather than relying solely on standard cannon shots. Winning demands smart positioning, careful prediction of hidden enemy coordinates, and timely use of special actions to reveal or strike concealed targets.

How to play BattleTabs

Each match begins with fleet setup, where you arrange your four vessels on the water grid. Once combat starts, you and your opponent alternate turns launching strikes into the fog of war across the opposite board.

• Left-click selects ships from your lineup, targets board squares, and triggers special abilities.
• Right-click or the mouse-wheel rotates your ships during placement and adjusts attack orientations during your turn.

When you click a tile on the hostile board, your attack reveals whether you hit water or connected with an enemy hull. Connecting hits gives you clues about where the rest of that vessel rests, allowing you to follow up on subsequent turns until all four opponent vessels sink.

Fleet planning and special abilities

Unlike traditional pen-and-paper naval guessing games, BattleTabs emphasizes active fleet composition. Different unlockable ships feature unique power-ups with individual cooldown periods between uses. Some abilities scan wider sections of the grid to detect hidden ships, while others deliver heavy area bombardments across multiple squares once ready.

Because cooldowns tick between rounds, managing when to hold or trigger your strongest abilities dictates the tempo of the duel. Players can also run several active matches simultaneously or invite friends directly to tactical showdowns.

Tactical tips for winning matches

• Stagger ship placement during setup to avoid clustering your vessels in predictable corners or straight lines.
• Save wide-area radar or scouting skills for the early turns when searching across an untouched board.
• Focus down damaged ships immediately to eliminate their specific abilities from the opponent’s active arsenal.
• Track ability cooldown timers so you can line up your biggest attacks as soon as they become available.
• Use mouse-wheel rotation to angle directional strikes and cover suspicious unrevealed tile clusters.
